About Boomer Calc
Boomer Calc is a set of four everyday calculators with big buttons, large numbers and plain labels: a standard calculator, a mortgage payment calculator, a BMI calculator and a tip splitter. It is made for anyone who wants a quick answer without small print, pop-up menus or a learning curve, and especially for readers who find most calculator apps cramped and hard to read.
Who makes it
Boomer Calc is made by Steve Abrams Designs. It is available on the web at boomercalc.com and is also built as an iPhone and iPad app. You can reach us at steveabramsdesigns@gmail.com.
How it is designed
- Large buttons that are easy to tap, even with less steady hands.
- High-contrast numbers that are readable at arm's length.
- One job per screen. Each calculator asks only for what it needs and shows one clear answer.
- Plain-language error messages. If an entry cannot be calculated, the calculator says why, for example “Cannot divide by zero,” instead of showing a wrong number.
- No account, no sign-up and no saved history.
How the math is checked
Every calculator uses a published, standard formula: the fixed-rate loan payment formula for mortgages, weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared for BMI, and simple percentages for tips. Each formula is covered by automated tests that compare its results with answers worked out by hand. The guide shows every formula with a worked example, so you can check the results yourself.
The results are estimates for everyday planning. The mortgage figure leaves out taxes and insurance, and a BMI number is not a medical assessment. For decisions about a loan or your health, please confirm with your lender or your doctor.
How it is paid for
Boomer Calc is free. It is supported by advertising from Google: AdSense on reading pages of this website, such as this one, and an AdMob banner in the iPhone app. The numbers you type into the calculators stay on your device. The privacy policy explains what the ad services may collect and how to limit ad tracking.
Feedback
If a result looks wrong, a button is hard to use, or you would like another calculator added, email steveabramsdesigns@gmail.com. It helps to include the numbers you entered and what you expected to see.
